Dropped Scones

Ingredients

8 oz self-raising flour
¼ tspn. salt
2 ¼ oz. castor sugar
1 egg
1 teacupful of sweet milk
1 oz. melted cooking fat

 

  1. Sift dry ingredients into a bowl. Beat the egg and half of the milk.
  2. Make a well in the centre of the flour and add the egg and milk, stirring with a wooden spoon.
  3. Make a smooth batter, adding the remainder of the milk gradually.
  4. Add the melted cooking fat and mix thoroughly.
  5. Lightly grease a hot girdle and drop on the mixture in small rounds.
  6. When the surface rises in bubbles, turn over with a knife and brown the other side.
  7. Cool on a clean towel.
